Waiting for the perfect time to quit your job and start loving your life again? Or maybe start your new business? Whatever it may be? I hate to break it to you … but there is no such thing as a perfect time. Life comes up! Its time to strive for excellence in your life, instead of this perfect idea you have in your mind. You can never guarantee that there will be a better time to do something than there is right now!
Perfectionism in itself it merely impossible! Perfect means there is no way to be better, than what is already done. As human’s we need growth! We need the challenge and reward of improving our projects, relationships and ourselves! So, let’s do a switcheroo… instead of perfection, let’s aim for excellence!
Excellence in other words is aiming to do your best. When you aim to do your best, then there is no other expectation that could lead to disappointment. There also leaves infinite room for growth, which as I mentioned, we need that!
So how do we drop the expectations of perfectionism? How do we strive for excellence? Well I can’t say that there is any specific which way, as everyone is dealing with their own shit… But I’m offering you an invitation to DROP the expectation and forgive yourself for holding perfectionism so highly! Give yourself the permission to really just do your best right now…TODAY. Your efforts today, are way better than waiting 1 month, 12 months, 2 years to start just so it can be “perfect”.
Here are my top 5 tips for striving for excellence.
1. Look for feedback!
Feedback is what will help you grow and thrive! And when you are open and looking for it, it won’t seem like a failure or defeat when it is given to you! Embrace the knowledge that others are wanting to share with you! Most times, people share or give constructive criticism because they want to see you succeed! If you can tell there is another motive behind it, then you let it go or let them go. They criticize due to their insecurities within themselves.
2. Share what you already know!
Share with others what you already know! Help give feedback to others! When you are confident in something you are already doing, it will encourage you to continue learning and trying new things! Recognize what kind of impact you make just being you and sharing what you know!
3. Get passionate!
When you do what you love, you don’t feel that you are working any more, as you derive pleasure from it. Hence, you have to be passionate about whatever you do. In addition, involvement is essential for excellence. When you involve yourself, the sky is your limit.
4. Worker smarter- not harder
You must learn to work smartly, wisely, and hard in order to achieve excellence. There is a difference between working hard and working smart. Working hard is all about hustling and being “busy” without any planning and preparation. In contrast, working smart is about preparation with a proper blueprint to proceed, and putting that to hustle with ease and flow. Hard work consumes a lot of time, money, and resources, while smart work conserves time, money, and resources.
5. Practice gratitude
When you trade your expectations in for gratitude your whole mindset will change. Instead of being resentful and afraid of what could happen when you “mess up” or “fail” you, you will be grateful and find the lesson in every move and decision you make. Make a list of the things you are grateful for every morning and make the intention to hold them high through your consciousness all day!
So, the next time you allow the limiting belief of perfectionism to come into play, remember that it is unrealistic and will never get you what you want. Aristotle says “We are what we repeatedly do. Excellence, then, is not an act, but a habit.”
